A Note From Carla, Founder and Owner

I’m Carla Payne, founder of Aging Care Matters. In 2023, I applied for and received a small business loan that made it possible to build our second adult day center here in Durham because I knew families in this community needed more affordable, compassionate, dementia-informed support options.

What makes our Durham team distinctive is the combination of professional care management knowledge with a deeply personal and relationship-centered approach — we truly get to know each participant, their story, their routines, and what helps them feel safe, calm, and connected.

We would love to personally invite you to visit our Southpoint center, meet our team, tour the space, and experience the warmth, engagement, and peace of mind we strive to provide every family who walks through our doors.

Memory Care & Dementia Support At Our Wake Forest Location

At ACM’s Aging Care Matters Adult Day Center – Southpoint Durham, we provide compassionate, dementia-informed care in a safe, structured, and engaging environment designed to support both participants and caregivers. Our team follows the Positive Approach to Care philosophy created by Teepa Snow, helping staff understand that behavior is communication and teaching approaches that reduce fear, frustration, anxiety, and resistance for individuals living with dementia.

What makes ACM distinctive is that our caregivers are employees — not rotating contractors — allowing participants and families to build trusted, familiar relationships with the same consistent team members each day. Southpoint’s larger open layout, calming routines, outdoor gardening and patio space, structured engagement, and relationship-centered programming help support individuals experiencing memory loss, confusion, sundowning, isolation, or cognitive decline while giving families peace of mind throughout the day.
